CRPS Therapy Program

About the CRPS Therapy Program

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is like that unwelcome guest who refuses to leave the party. It's a chronic pain condition that can develop after an injury, surgery, or even without any apparent cause. Imagine your body's pain alarm system going haywire, sending constant pain signals to your brain, even though the injury has healed. CRPS can cause intense pain, swelling, changes in skin temperature and colour, and stiffness in the affected limb.

It's like your body is throwing a temper tantrum, and no amount of soothing seems to calm it down. Living with CRPS can feel like navigating a maze with no exit, but with proper treatment and support, many people find ways to manage the pain and reclaim their lives.

Psychological treatment and brain retraining for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) offer a unique approach to managing this challenging condition. Think of it as hitting the "reset" button on your brain's pain processing system.

Through techniques like cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT) and neuroplasticity exercises, we will assist you to rewire the brain's response to pain, helping to reduce the intensity and frequency of symptoms. CBT helps you identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviours that may contribute to pain, while brain retraining exercises focus on promoting neuroplasticity, the brain's ability to adapt and change.

By learning to challenge unhelpful beliefs about pain and engage in activities that promote healing and relaxation, psychological treatment and brain retraining can empower individuals with CRPS to take control of their condition and improve their quality of life. It's like giving your brain a workout to strengthen its resilience and ability to manage pain more effectively.

Goals of the Program

  1. Gaining a better understanding of CRPS to make informed decisions about self-care.
  2. Learning and practicing relaxation and mindfulness techniques as well as self-hypnosis to reduce stress, and retraining the brain, managing pain more effectively.
  3. Identifying and challenging negative thoughts and beliefs about pain.
  4. Setting achievable goals for daily activities and physical movement.
  5. Engaging in brain retraining activities to promote neuroplasticity and change pain perception.
  6. Developing coping strategies for managing emotional distress associated with CRPS symptoms.
  7. Using practical strategies for improving sleep quality and managing fatigue.
  8. Exploring lifestyle changes that may help alleviate CRPS symptoms, such as diet, stopping smoking and exercises.
